    Second international online course on the application of satellite products held

    On September 14, international distance training course on the application of satellite products was kicked off. This is the fifth international distance training course in 2020, and the second international distance training course on satellite. It has a theme of the application of Fengyun satellite products in weather, which aims to enhance the capacities of the trainees to apply FY meteorological satellite products, especially in terms of areas like weather prediction and meteorological disaster monitoring.

  • National Meteorological Center predicts large scale rainy weather in central-eastern China

    According to the latest prediction of National Meteorological Center (NMC), from September 22 to 23, overcast and rainy weather will grip southern China. North China and eastern Northeast China will usher in pronounced evident weather. Heavy rain will lash northern Shanxi, western Hebei, southern Tianjin, and northwestern Heilongjiang.

  • Arctic sea ice minimum is 2nd lowest on record

    Arctic sea ice – a key climate change indicator - has reached its annual minimum extent after the summer melt season. It was the second lowest extent only after the record low observed in 2012.

  • Krathon and Pulasan listed into typhoon names replacing Mangkhut and Rumbia

    On August 17, two typhoon names, Krathon and Pulasan, provided by Thailand and Malasia were officially unveiled. They will take the place of two typhoon names Mangkhut and Rumbia declared retired on the occasion of the 51th Session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and the World Meteorological Organization Typhoon Committee.

  • Custom-made interactive website forecasting products provided by WMC-BJ for Laos yield results

    Recently, Bounteum Sysouphanthavong, Director of Weather Forecast and Early Warning Division of Department of Meteorology and Hydrology of Laos sent the correspondence which expressed gratitude to World Meteorological Center Beijing (WMC-BJ) to provide forecasting products from custom-made interactive website for Laos, including GRAPES-GFS global model, Global smart grid prediction and Fengyun meteorological satellite cloud images.

  • CMA global objective weather forecast product covers 11621 cities

    Recently, the global objective weather forecast product independently developed by China Meteorological Administration (CMA) has been put into operation, which can provide real-time global 10-km grid point prediction at 3-hour interval for the next 10 days, refined weather forecast for 11621 cities across the globe, and weather forecast of the local time at 12-hour interval. This is a crucial measure in pushing ahead “global monitoring, global forecast, and global service” and will further expand the coverage of forecasting products and ramp up global forecasting and service capacities.
